Australian Mathematics Competition

One of the world’s largest school-based mathematics competitions with more than 14 million entries since 1978

About the Australian Mathematics Competition

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has become the largest single event on the Australian education calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks on the same day in over 30 countries around the globe.

Running since 1978, the AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6) or 75 minutes (Years 7–12). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking rather than focus on calculations themselves, thus such questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.

PISCT had 56 candidates from grades 3 to 12 registered to attend this well-known competition. Students first given personal information forms to fill and then started the math competition at 8:30.

We are looking forward to hearing good news about our students results.

Pak- Japanese interactive class was held on 27th September 2017 at PISCT.

Thirteen students of the Japanese school in Tehran accompanied by their principal Mr. Kenji Shimizu and four teachers including Mr. Oda Masahiro arrived at PISCT at 8:45 am. The event was coordinated by Mr. Oda Masahiro from Japanese school and Miss Omid Vafadari from PISCT.

Our students were selected from grade 3 to 9 as per criteria given by the Japanese school. Students of both schools introduced themselves to each other. Mr. Oda distributed colourful origami papers and Japanese students started teaching ORIGAMI to their PISCT counterparts by making yachts, missiles, fish, etc. and in the second round, all students participated in an Art Activity, as well. This interactive class was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and strengthened the bond between Pakistan and Japan.

Last week our students had fantastic week because we were learning about dinosaurs. All the children were very excited to do their art work and dino worksheets! Every day we read our dinosaur books and we learned a lot about fossils, meat-eaters and leaf-eaters. We brought many dinosaurs for our class display and the children were glad to play with them.

We also discovered many interesting facts about amazing reptiles that used to roam planet Earth many years ago. At the end of the week we were happy to visit Jurassic Park where our students had workshop and also had a chance to see dinosaurs! Enormous T-Rex impressed everybody! We all had great time and wonderful experience!!!

Spelling Bee 2017 was held on Tuesday September 14 in Pakistan International School and College Tehran. The buzzing library was packed with pupils- the spellers and their fellow classmates who were cheering for them.

The competition was held in two sections including the junior group- grades V, VI and VII- as well as the seniors- grades VIII, IX,X, XI, Ol, O2, AS and A2. As almost all of the spellers had tried hard to prepare themselves for this spelling challenge, there was  a considerable number of nail-biting rounds which pictured a general victory for PISCT. Eventually, Sara Qasim and David Cumba from class VIII and Maheen Safdar from O-Level 1 won the three ranks in the senior section  while Vimbainashe Mazenenga class VI, Fatima Aziz and Iffah Khadijah Hissmmudin -both from grade VII- won the first three junior ranks.

Following the previous years' tradition, the whole event was coordinated by Miss Neda. The honorable pronouncers of 2017 Spelling Bee were Miss Omid, Miss Nazanin and Miss Neda.
